Key Aspects
African countries pose great challenges for development policy. It is still uncertain if countries in sub-Saharan Africa will be able to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by 2015.
The Partnership should be people-centred, promoting peace, security, democratic governance and human rights as well as gender equality.
People’s living conditions should be improved through promoting sustainable economic development, including regional and continental integration. Energy supply is of significant importance for economic development and poverty alleviation.
This is why the VENRO Project "Prospects for Africa – Europe´s Policies" focuses on the subject area of energy and climate, trade and regional integration as well as gender.
These topics have already been central issues of the VENRO presidency project and were identified as important topics by the African partner organizations. In addition, the German government is co-chair of the Implementation Teams for energy as well as democratic governance and human rights.
